Rebecca is a theatre maker, facilitator, visual artist and projects co-ordinator. She has worked with companies across London including The Blue Elephant Theatre, Soho Theatre, Emergency Exit Arts, The Almeida, Southwark Playhouse and many more. Rebecca trained in Drama at Hull University, carnival arts with Kinetika Art Links International and devising and physical theatre at L’Ecole Internationale de Jacques Lecoq in Paris. She has recently formed her own arts company Fit to Burst.

I have always drawn and made things. In 2006 I took part in a carnival design and production course with Kinetika Art Links International. Since then I have worked making carnival costumes and puppets. You can see some examples of my work above. The first image was made by artist Katy Eldridge and painted by me, the second was made with a group of young people from HAFAD (Hammersmith and Fulham Action on Disability) for the Thames Festival.

Carnival Archive

I currently work part-time as Learning and Outreach Officer for the HLF Carnival Archive at UKCCA in Luton. I am planning and delivering a broad range of outreach activity including a Vintage Jubilee Street Party with swing dance, carnival performances and village fete; a flash mob for young people in Luton Mall and an interactive piece of street theatre ‘Carnival Collectors and The Memory Machine’.

Director Rebecca Tortora did a great job of putting this play on the stage.

Rebecca was an incredibly innovative and free thinking director who constantly pushed boundaries and encouraged her actors to explore new things and really fostered an experimental and open feel in the rehearsal room.

Fit to Burst presents: Last night I met you dreaming

We are developing our first devised show ‘Last night I met you dreaming.’

Inspired by the writer Isabelle Allende and her novel Eva Luna ‘Last night I met you dreaming’ is a devised show exploring the story of a young journalist struggling with the challenge of juggling her demanding career and her desire for love and family. Reporting on international affairs and haunted by the pain of the women in her articles she tumbles into a chaotic dream world where she comes face to face with their realities and to her surprise rediscovers love, courage, hope and magic in the face of despair.

With bold characters, movement, puppets and original music this show will explore the stories of the women that we seldom hear, presented in a fractured surreal world of reportage, real life and magic

Last summer I took part in the MintFest summer school in Kendal for emerging street arts practitioners. I worked with French Theatre company Les Goulus and performed in their show The Yellow Hand. This was an interactive satirical show taking a lighthearted look at cult manipulation using clown and song.

Fit to Burst

Fit to Burst is a new arts company. We make devised theatre, produce unusual and surprising theatrical events and create and deliver innovative and exciting participatory projects and creative learning programmes.

Greenwich Games Space

I recently worked as designer on this street theatre project for young people based around the Olympic sites in Greenwich. We have been experimenting with street signs and how they make us move. The design team have been making giant nonsensical signs and playing with them in their development week over Easter. Have a look at their blog for more info and pictures of their performance.

I have worked as a creative and participation producer delivering high quality events and arts activities with artists and communities. This is an image from a Butoh performance created by artist Firak Dibello that I produced when I was Associate Producer of TONIC at Camden People’s Theatre .
